What I've Learned

After watching Mickey Mouse Monopoly I learned that Disney sends subliminal messages to kids, teaching them that being in an abusive relationship is okay. An example of this would be Beauty and the Beast showing little girls that  it’s okay to stay in relationships where you get hurt.  When asked why people stay in abusive relationships they said that they have become financially dependent on their partner, they don’t know where to go if the relationship were to end, and lastly that they stay because they love the person and believe that with time they’ll change. The reasons stated above are similar to that of  Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Belle stayed with the Beast even though he mentally abused her by screaming at her and demanding her to do things she did not want to do. In the end after all of the abuse because Belle loved the “Beast” he changed into “Romeo”.

This picture describes abusive relationships and shows that people will stay in them because they want to believe that their partner will change in time if they keep loving them.
When watching the Story of Stuff I learned that what we buy is not only depleting our country’s resources but damaging the environment of other countries. The Unites States has less than 5% of its original forest left and for a country that only has 5% of the world population we're using 30% of the worlds resources as well as creating 30% of the worlds waste. For a decade now places such as Somalia have been damaged by toxic waste dropped by United States companies. These toxins have reached the shore of Somalia infecting the fish and wild life that Somali's are accustomed to eating.
This image shows that when we throw trash on our shores and streets it's illegal but companies in the United States and around the world think that it's okay to throw away their toxic and hazardous waste in other countries.
