Marketing Schemes and Toxic Products

There are many new tactics created in marketing to target consumers. I learned media brings underground trends mainstream to promote products. The video, Merchants of Cool, goes into depth how media is convincing the youth what is trendy.  Marketers use websites and studies of cool kids to discover new trends. In the video, it shows how Sprite uses hip-hop rapper Nelly to promote their product to the youth in a new technique of marketing.
In this Sprite commercial, rapper Drake exemplifies how hip-hop idols are used in marketing to promote a product.

I also learned that corporations mix toxic chemicals with natural resources to produce toxic contaminated products. Story of Stuff depicts the process household products make from third-world countries and the effect it has on our world.

Annie Leonard explains how in the production stage 100,000 synthetic chemicals are used to create everyday products with little testing of health impacts. Brominated Flame Retardants is a chemical used to make things fire proof but are a neurotoxin leaving affects on the brain.
Brominated Vegetable Oil contains an element found in brominated flame retardants, which is unhealthy to build up in people's body.
