Disney is sending children subliminal messages through their movies. From the video, “Mickey Mouse Monopoly,” I learned that most of the Disney princess movies show little girls that they need to do whatever it takes to find their “Prince Charming” in order to be happy. Disney portrays females as being helpless without a man. Females in the movies use their body to get whatever they want. They are shown flaunting their eyelashes at men. Females are also characterized as only being domestic in these Disney movies.

In the movie, “The Little Mermaid,” Disney is sending little girls the subliminal message that by using their bodies they can get a man. For example, Ariel gives up her voice in exchange for legs to be with a guy. The guy she wants to be with is a human so wants to become a human too. The only way Ariel will be able to stay a human is if the prince says he loves her. Voiceless Ariel has to make her Prince Charming fall in love with her only using her body. Her prince charming, Eric, is amazed by how beautiful Ariel is and falls in love with her. These subliminal messages are being sent to little girls and their parents are not aware of it. Since most females in the movies marry and become princesses, little girls look up to them. Little girls admire them so much that they follow their footsteps.
Here is a meme of Ariel and Eric
Everyone wants to stay up to date on trends. If someone who is considered “cool” wears a certain brand others will go and buy it. People are trying to buy their way into being cool. This is great for marketers because their products are being sold. People are satisfied with the products and marketers are successful because of this.
Marketers will go to any lengths get consumers. From the video, “Merchants of Cool,” I learned that teenagers are one of the biggest consumer groups. The documentary states that, “Last year, America’s teens spent $100 billion...” on clothing. What teenagers are really purchasing is the clothing brand not the actual clothes. These brands are expensive because they are so popular among teens. Many teenagers just follow a crowd to fit in with the “cool kids.” Teens will continue to purchase things that are trending just to stay cool.
This meme refers to what many girls wear when it's cold
